For Arnie and Shawn Callaghan Diaz and their family, who celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas, dreidels are a big part of the seasonal decoration and fun.
“Our collection began 30 years ago when my sister-in-law sent me the first of many as a gift,” said Shawn. “I loved my late mother-in-law’s explanation of how to play dreidel: ‘It’s kind of like jacks with a little gambling thrown in!’”
For their first Hanukkah meal as a married couple, Shawn served cheesebugers and latkes. “I explained to Arnold that the Irish are pretty familiar with potatoes — I could make a latke and I have for 30 years.”
