On a sunny day in May, Wainwright House hosted their 3rd annual “Spring Awakening” luncheon beneath a great white tent on the lawn overlooking the Sound. Three couples — Dinah and James Howland, Catherine Parker and David Walker, and Patti and Doug Wood — received the first Fonrose Wainwright Condit Heart & Soul” Award. The award for exemplary community service is named for the woman who turned her family home over to a board of trustees, establishing Wainwright House as a center of human potential and healing “through spiritual, philosophical, and ecological paths.
After a glass of bubbly on the flagstone terrace overflowing with bright flowers and spring dresses, the guests moved under the tent and took their seats. Executive Director Peggy Hill welcomed the large gathering of supporters and trustees Carol Craig, Pam Dwyer, and Richard Martinelli introduced the honorees. The award recipients spoke warmly of the community’s many wonderful volunteers.
Event Chairs Rita Schubert and Holly Galgano spoke for many when they said: “It has been our joy to help revive the story of Fonrose and to bring to focus the spiritual and holistic mission of Wainwright House.”
Luxurious gift baskets were raffled off and a giving tree generated much interest. It was a beautiful, gracious day.
