As a transplanted Texan who moved to Rye with my husband to raise our three daughters, and as a former candidate who ran for the City Council I can relate to Jana Seitz and recommend her election wholeheartedly.
I am familiar with the wonderful culture, issues, and opportunities here in Rye and the characteristics that make a good City Council member. We need competent, caring people who are currently active in the community with a proven history of accomplishment, as well as a great familiarity with our culture.
Jana excels at all of this and so much more.
Jana, a native Louisianan, moved to Rye with her husband Andy, who grew up here, thirteen years ago to raise their children. She has brought her unique talents and infectious positivity to so many community issues and programs which have benefited. In the last twelve years, she breathed life into Edith Read Sanctuary, of which she is now President, initiating programs which made it financially solvent and increasing the membership from 750 to 3,000! She created an outdoor children’s summer program for the Rye Nature Center, which she leads as a counselor for six weeks in the summer, spending her time kayaking and hiking with our kids around the area.
Jana and I have served together as trustees on the Rye Free Reading Room board, she most recently as Vice President. Every year, when it comes time to get my Christmas tree, I will buy it from Jana in her role as an active volunteer of the tree sale at Christ’s Church.
More than anything else, Jana is someone who deeply cares and puts it into action, as is epitomized by her jumping into her kayak at 1 a.m. the night of Ida to paddle half a mile to check on the wellbeing of an elderly friend of her in-laws.
There is no one better for the job. Jana will represent all residents, fairly, competently, and with empathy. In closing, I reiterate my wholehearted support of Jana for City Council.
