Midland students took to the stage last week for a school tradition dating back more than 20 years: the autumn talent shows. Second and third graders performed the first night and fourth and fifth graders the next.

The talent shows draw the crowds, and this year was no exception. Attendance was over 250 both nights.

Audiences were thrilled by the impressive number of acts — close to 50 — ranging from a one-minute handstand to comedic monologues, dance and gymnastics displays, and, of course, a rendition of the now exceedingly familiar “Gangham Style” from seven fifth-grade boys. (Is there any group left on the planet that hasn’t done a rendition of the pop anthem? Perhaps the Rye City Council?)

The Thursday show included a number of soloists who performed piano and dance pieces.schools-midland talent show gangham style boys 1

Special thanks to Midland parents Alicia Hiller-Mahmoudov, Carol Pouchie, Deb Lawlor, Susanne Macke, and Mary Amy for producing the shows.
