Clare Heffernan Shlora passed away peacefully on September 3, 2020, her 95th birthday at her Westchester Country Club home with her daughters by her side.
Born in Worcester, Mass., she was the eldest of Ray and Margaret Heffernan’s five children.
She attended Convent of the Sacred Heart in Newton, Mass., and Rosemont College in Pennsylvania. After college, she moved to New York City but later returned to Worcester, where shortly thereafter she met “Mr. Wonderful”, Ray Shlora. They were married for 57 years.
The newlyweds moved to Montreal, Quebec where they raised their four children.
After 20 years in Quebec, the family moved to Rye, and while there Clare became active in the Scarsdale Women’s Group and the 1st Twig of Harrison.
“Her greatest gift was her ability to make others laugh,” said her family. She was proudly Irish and an enthusiastic bridge player. She will be sorely missed. As she would say, ‘To be continued.’”
In addition to her four children and their spouses, Robert Shlora (Paula), Joan Whipple (George), Nancy Donnelly (John), and Marie Misisco (Matthew),
Mrs. Shlora is survived by nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; her brother, Jack Heffernan, and her sister Frances Rooney, both of Rye. She was predeceased by her husband Ray Shlora, who dies in 2008; and her brothers Paul Heffernan of Wellesley, Mass. and William Heffernan of Gladwyne, Pa.
