Jean Lawrence Konopka passed away peacefully on December 15, 2021 at her home in Rye, N.Y. She was 100 years old.
Born in New York City on February 18, 1921, she was the daughter of Anita and William Lawrence and grew up in Rye where her family enjoyed living for 88 years.
Jean graduated from Rye High School and was a big fan and supporter of the Rye Garnet Football team for many years.
She married Theodore R. Konopka at Rye Presbyterian Church on June 1, 1946.
At St. Peter’s Church in Port Chester, she was a member of the Vestry for many years and taught Sunday School. The Konopka’s belonged to Rye Fish and Game Club and enjoyed boating on their several boats, all named Lar-Kon. In later years, she enjoyed being a member of the Rye Seniors, which meets at Rye Recreation.
“Our mom was the best stay-at-home wife and mother ever,” said her children.
Mrs. Konopka was predeceased by her cherished husband of 65 years, as well as her brothers Roger and Bill Lawrence. She is survived by her three devoted children, Judy Konopka Lennon (Bill) of St. Augustine, Fla., Theodore R. Konopka Jr. (Liza) of Rye, and Lynn Lawrence Latiak of Greenwich, Conn. She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren, William Lennon (Debby), Lynden Latiak (Joyce), Shawn Lennon (Alma), and Noelle Jean Gmitter; and five great-grandchildren: Cali, Kendall, and Blake Lennon and Violet and Tripp Latiak. She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, neighbors, friends, and her faithful dog, Freckles.
A funeral service was held December 20 at Graham Funeral Home in Rye. Donations in Mrs. Konopka’s memory may be made to Calvary Hospice, 1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY 10461.
