How Rye’s waterfront location helped shaped our city’s history and uniqueness is the focus of the Rye Historical Society’s new exhibit, “Rye: A Coastal Community”, which opens September 15 at The Square House.
Exploring all aspects of our community, beginning with the natural resources that attracted indigenous people centuries ago, the exhibit also examines the industries that drove our economy — farming, milling, shipbuilding, fishing —and the recreational opportunities along the beachfront.
Looking at present-day Rye, the exhibit, which is curated for all ages, delves into on-going preservation efforts, while considering the inherent risks of waterfront living.
The Square House is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 to 4.
