Robert Lawrence Gerety, a Rye resident for 25 years, passed away suddenly on March 14, 2021. He was 62.
Born in New Rochelle on August 28, 1958, he was the son of Marie (Buchspies) and William J. Gerety Jr.
In 1976, he graduated from Mamaroneck High School, where he received the Outstanding Varsity Hockey Award. He went on to Washington County Community College in Calais, Maine, before beginning a career in general construction building trades.
Mr. Gerety worked for Westchester Country Club and was a senior carpenter in the Engineering Department for 15 years. He was also a shop steward union representative.
“Bobby was a big and gentle man who loved wide open spaces, the mountains, golf, and walking his little Papillon on the Playland Boardwalk,” said his brother Bill. “And as so many of his friends noted at the service, he was the nicest guy you’d ever meet.”
In addition to his loving wife of 29 years, Kathleen Gerety, he is survived by his daughter Kaitlin; his sisters Frances, Mary, and Grace, and his brother Bill; mother-in-law Marie Gianguzzi; sister-in-law Laurie Gianguzzi; nieces Meghan and Erin Cody; and nephew Sean Cody.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Church of the Resurrection March 27.
