If you’ve attended a Garnets football game anytime over the last forty years, you’ve seen loyal fans Diane and Ken Dahlgren cheering on their hometown team. On July 19, the Dahlgren’s children and spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a niece and nephew who came up from Georgia, helped them celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on a cruise around Manhattan.
Diane Marie Cole married Kenneth Eugene Dahlgren on July 22, 1954. He was from Harrison; she was from Rye. After serving in the US Navy during The Korean War, Ken went to work for NY Bell Telephone Company. Diane was a full-time mother for several years before going to work for First Union. For fifty years, Ken was a volunteer member of the Rye Fire Department and also served as Chief.
Diane was an active member of the Rye Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Aside from being devoted parents, Diane and Ken have given countless hours to the community, including volunteering at the Rye Rec Easter Egg Hunt and Rye Fire Department Christmas Breakfast. Over 30 years ago, the couple began hosting the Rye High School Pep Rally Dinner for players and cheerleaders before the Rye-Harrison Game, and the tradition continues today.
They are deeply loved and admired by their seven children, sixteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The love and devotion they have for each other is truly inspirational, shared their children.
