The City of Rye released the Rye Police Enforcement Statistics for 2011. Compared to 2010, overall traffic enforcement of moving violations declined 18% from 3,001 to 2,463 or 18%.
Most notably, the department gave out 37% fewer speeding tickets and 12% fewer drunk driving violations. Some categories of enforcement were up, such as unlicensed operation and other motor vehicle infractions; and parking violations remained stable from 2010 to 2011. But the overall trend was lower enforcement levels of moving violations. For example, cell phone citations declined from 239 in 2010 to 171 in 2011.
The patrol strength of the Rye Police Department was relatively stable between 2010 and 2011. There were 31 officers on average available for patrol in 2010 and the first two quarters of 2011. In the second half of 2011, because there were no officers on long-term sick leave or restricted duty, the patrol strength increased to 33.
