Vincent Joseph King, a lifelong resident of Rye, N.Y. and a veteran of the Korean War, passed away on May 31, 2023, at Greenwich Hospital. He was 91.
Born on December 11, 1931, he was one of five sons of Walter and Eileen (Burke) King.
At Rye High School, he played on the Varsity Football team. After he graduated in 1950, he joined the United States Marines. During the Korean War, he served with the First Marine Division and took part in three major campaigns on the Korean front, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. After serving in Korea, he was stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where he trained new air ground units.
After the war, Mr. King began a long career in telecommunications and worked for the New York Telephone Company, AT&T, Verizon, and The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.
In his free time, he enjoyed walks through Edith Read Sanctuary and along the Playland Pier.
Above all, Vincent King loved his sons Jason and Jonathan, who survive him, and the Marine Corps.
A celebration of his life was held June 8 at Kelly’s Sea Level in Rye.
